When it’s time to upgrade the boiler room in your facility, Riello Array condensing boilers offer an efficient solution. The Riello Array series is a pre-packaged boiler plant. According to Riello’s website, “Each Array boiler utilizes multiple heat exchanger modules, providing high turndown and multiple boiler redundancy in one packaged unit. A single Array boiler provides superior uptime reliability that is only found in larger boiler plants and multi boiler systems.”

The Wilkinson Companies was given the opportunity to complete a very exciting project for Polar Beverages, located in Worcester, MA. Founded in 1882, Polar Beverages Incorporated is the largest independent bottling company in the United States. Under continuous ownership and operation by four generations of the Crowley family, Polar Beverages’ brands include Polar Seltzer, Adirondack, Clear & Sparkling, O Water and Frannie’s. The company produces and distributes from three locations: Worcester, Massachusetts; Albany, New York; and Fitzgerald, Georgia. They were also very instrumental in moving Boston Red Sox Triple A affiliate Pawtucket Red Sox to the brand-new Polar Park, opening in Worcester in 2021.

Draft is one of the most critical aspects in any boiler system. Too much negative draft can cause a flame to be pulled off the burner head whereas too much positive can create excessive heat at the head and cause premature failure.  We call it the “potato chip effect” where the burner diffuser is cooked. All firetube, water tube and cast iron boilers and specific burners alike require a specific amount of draft whether it be positive or negative. With our vast experience we feel as if we’ve “seen it all” however, there’s always a new situation that can truly make us scratch our collective heads.

On February 13th, our friend and associate, Billy Ward, passed away. Billy had been with The Wilkinson Companies since 2015 and we are saddened by this tremendous loss. We will miss his industry expertise, stories and friendly smile.
