Emergencies can happen. No one wants to experience a loss of heat or hot water due to boiler failure, so it’s in the best interest of your facility to have a back-up plan should a crisis occur. We can assist with your plans under normal boiler room operations, so your facility is ready in case of emergency.

Emergency Planning Guide

What is a contingency plan? A contingency plan (or a back-up plan) is a strategy devised by an individual or organization to prepare themselves or a facility for a future event that may occur. The idea behind a contingency plan is to recognize the possibility of a disastrous event and appropriately arrange the necessary resources needed to accommodate the facility. This ensures normalcy resumes as soon as possible.

When you create a contingency plan, focus on three key questions:

  1. What are the possible emergencies that can occur?
  2. How will you respond?
  3. What can you do to prepare for it?

What kind of emergency? The most common boiler room emergencies are the loss of a heating boiler, the loss of a domestic hot water boiler and the loss of a process boiler. When a building experiences a failure of a heating boiler or loss of domestic hot water, it’s critical to either fix the issue immediately or fall back on a contingency plan. Depending on the severity of the issue, an immediate fix may not be possible and the property will need a mobile boiler to supply temporary heat and/or hot water. This is particularly important to facilities like hospitals, colleges, universities, apartment buildings and condominiums.

A mobile boiler is also needed if a building loses its process boiler. Process boilers are often crucial to daily operations. A process boiler failure can result in a loss in production, which can be extremely costly to the bottom line. When a business is reliant on their source of power to conduct daily operations, a contingency plan is key. In this scenario, a mobile boiler can eliminate downtime and prevent any large loss of money or production.

What’s a mobile boiler?  A mobile boiler is a fully operational portable boiler room that provides steam, hot water and/or domestic hot water. While mobile boilers can be used for various applications, facilities primarily use them for emergencies and scheduled shutdowns.

We work hard to keep our mobile units in first-rate condition. Dave Roche, General Manager of Wilkinson Mobile Boilers, explains: “
We built a mobile boiler test station here at our shop. We now have the ability to test fire every mobile boiler before it goes out and to set it up for the site’s specific conditions. We have a full staff of licensed and trained installation technicians who are constantly working on and upgrading our mobile boiler fleet to ensure they are safe and reliable. We strive to ensure that each mobile boiler rental goes smoothly from start to finish, while maintaining competitive pricing.

The Wilkinson Companies will perform boiler room audits at no cost to your facility. We can fabricate all steam, hot water, electrical and fuel lines to a specified area in your building where it will allow you to rent a mobile boiler and have minimal downtime in getting heat and/or hot water up and running.
